After meetings with Computer Lab Managers and Librarians:
Different campuses administer AR differently. What would be the best management solution for everyone?
Foreseeable problem: Other districts have required parents to sign a form allowing student names to be posted online. Because the system is online, all student logins and passwords would need to be uploaded. Districts feel that this is an open-identity issue and need full parental approval before allowing student information to be posted.
    Discussion
    1) Who manages the administration of the AR Tests? Is it the teachers or the librarians?

    Let's talk Accelerated Reader
Currently have 5 campuses using AR - running on KISD servers:
Daniels spent $4687 on AR Quizzes this year
Nimitz spent $4464 on AR Quizzes this year
Starkey spent $2436 on AR Quizzes this year
Tally spent $3948 on AR Quizzes this year
BT Wilson spent $1465 on AR Quizzes this year
    Total: $17000 on Quizzes
Additional: $279 per campus for tech support = 1395
KISD 2009-2010 spent $18395 for Accelerated Reader
Plan - Migrate to Web-based AR with option to add Pre-K
    Year 1 = $599 upgrade fee per school (one-time fee) = $2995
Each campus pays $4.25 per student. Current enrollment around 2500: $10,625
Add 3 hours of web-training at each campus for $150 per hour = $2250
KISD 2010-2011 can spend $15870 for Accelerated Reader
Year 2+ = No upgrade fee
Each campus pays $4.25 per student - Approx cost = $10,625
Hosting fee for each school is $399 = $1995
KISD 2011-2012 can spend $12,620 for Accelerated Reader
    Benefits of Online Hosting:
Students will have access to all 130,000+ quizzes and any new ones they add. No more having to purchase individual quizzes.
Any book title that is in the AR database qualifies as an AR book - use http://arbookfind.com - and this includes books available in school libraries, public libraries, home libraries and borrowed from friends/family.
Parents can check child's AR information in Renaissance Place Home Connect from ANY web-enabled computer*.
Parents have separate login and have access to resources for home support.
No more installations; automatic upgrades; auto backups; data doctors; nor quiz downloads.
Accessible on any computer - Mac or PC
Reports can be run on class level; school level; and district level.
    Includes:
Accelerated Vocabulary and ALL Vocabulary Quizzes
Literacy Skills Quizzes - TEKs-type skills that are teacher-driven. Cover class-read novels and students can take these quizzes up to three times. Come with full teacher guides and reports not only show what skills individual students missed but which skills an entire class may have missed.
Recorded Voice Quizzes - Great for early literacy and Special Needs
Spanish Quizzes: Over 7,000 in the system
Textbook Quizzes: Includes textbook and leveled readers: Scott-Foresman, Houghton-Mifflin, Harcourt and MacGraw HIll

    2) Where do students go to access AR at your campus?
    3) Are their incentives for students who get higher AR points?
    4) Are students getting graded on their AR points?
    Concern from librarians:
Would allowing home access increase prevalence of cheating?
Would home access allow students with computers at home a greater advantage than those who do not have computers at home?
